Key Features

• Cuff: The inflatable cuff wraps around the patient's upper arm (or sometimes the wrist or thigh) to temporarily restrict blood flow in the artery. It is usually made of durable, flexible material.
• Pressure gauge: This gauge can be analog (with a dial) or digital, displaying the pressure reading in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). The readings indicate systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels.
• Inflation mechanism:The cuff is inflated using a manual bulb or an automatic electronic pump, depending on the type of sphygmomanometer.
• StethoscopeIn manual sphygmomanometers (often called auscultatory devices), a stethoscope is used to listen for Korotkoff sounds, which indicate the onset of blood flow and cessation of flow, helping to determine systolic and diastolic pressure.
